FOREIGN LANGUAGE DEPARTMENT
Lenape Valley Regional High School offers sequential study in three modern languages: French, German,
and Spanish. The primary goal of this study is the achievement of functional communication in the target language. All courses concentrate on the development of listing, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Using a variety of techniques, the Foreign Language department helps students enrolled in these classes achieve the following proficiencies:
- The development of listing comprehension and oral fluency in the selected language.
- The mastery of the grammatical foundation and syntax of the language studied.
- The heightened awareness of the culture and history of the nation or nations in which the selected language is spoken.
Although the study of foreign language is not a requirement for graduation, students who anticipate attending college should pursue a minimum of two years or three years of continuous study of the same language. More competitive colleges may require a four-year sequence.
