BLOOMFIELD, NJ β The annual Battle of the Barristers charity softball game, hosted by Genova Burns LLC, returns this Thursday at 12:15 PM at Brookdale Parkβand this yearβs event carries special meaning. Longtime coach of the Genova Burns softball team and retired Lenape Valley educator David DβOlivo will be on the field once again, this time alongside his son, Dave DβOlivo Jr., who joins the coaching ranks.
The father-son duo symbolizes the spirit of mentorship, community, and multigenerational leadership that defines the tournament. David Sr., a respected figure both on and off the field, spent decades shaping students and athletes alike. Now, his legacy continues as his son follows in his footstepsβboth as a teacher and a coach.
The Battle of the Barristers benefits the Newark Day Centerβs Fresh Air Fund, a cause that has raised tens of thousands of dollars for childrenβs programs over the years. In 2024, Genova Burns hosted the tournament and brought in roughly $87,000 for the Fresh Air Fund.
βThis yearβs Battle of the Barristers isnβt just a gameβitβs a legacy in motion,β said Tammy Orlando, Genova Burnsβ Director of Marketing.
Genova Burns is proud to support the mission, while also fostering a culture of teamwork, mentorship, and family beyond the courtroom.
Come out Thursday to cheer them on, support a great cause, and celebrate a remarkable legacy in education and coaching. All are welcome!
