Four Lenape Valley Foundations of Education students sit at the front of a Stanhope Elementary classroom, with one holding up an original children’s book during their storytelling visit.

Students in Ms. Kulcsar’s Foundations of Education class paid a special visit to the school’s lower elementary grades, sharing original, self-written children’s books with eager young listeners in kindergarten through third grade.

The high school authors treated the younger students to four unique, lesson-filled stories:

  • Draco’s Drained: The story of a boy who loses his vibrant colors after spending too much time staring at his tablet.

  • Petite Poppy Platypus: A tale about a tiny platypus on a big mission to clean up a polluted pond.

  • Pip and the Missing Rainbow: A story featuring a determined bunny on a quest to gather and restore the missing colors of the rainbow.

  • The Seed That Wouldn’t Grow: A heartwarming read about a tiny seedling named Sprout who learns to overcome the fear of growing up.

The visit was an inspiring experience for both the older and younger students. The lower elementary kids sat captivated throughout the story sessions, jumping at the chance to ask thoughtful questions about what it takes to write a real book and how to bring character illustrations to life.

Ms. Kulcsar said, "the hands-on visit gave the Foundations of Education students valuable real-world classroom experience while sparking a creative flame in Stanhope’s youngest readers."
